The Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) a lay peoples Organisation was started in the Year 1979 with Sri Oscar Fernandes M. P. of Udupi, as a its founder President. This is an Official Social Organisation of the Diocese of Mangalore.

The Decennial celebration held in the Year 1989 provided its members the much needed booster dose to expand.

The growth and the need based activities and programs of Catholic Sabha, Mr. Agustine Gomes then Vice Pesident of Shirva Varado, came forward to offer as a donation one acre of his land to the Sabha to start some special project.

As result of a survey conducted in and around the parishes of Shirva Varada it was found that there were over a hundred mentally challenged children to be trained and rehabilitated within this limited area.

Immediately, the Catholic Sabha took up the project of a Teaching and training School for such children in Pangala Parish Shankerapura Campus on 11.08.1991. Dr. Edward Lobo was made the Convener of that School. On 12.12.1992 the second School was opened in Shirva Parish Campus by the initiative of Mr. Augustine Gomes.

THE CREATION OF MANASA TRUST:

To look after these two schools, a Managing Committee was formed. The members being,

By the year 1995, it was realised that a Teaching School, is not sufficient to train these children. Therefore Training and a Rehabilitation Center had to be planned.

Due to certain legal hurdles, the land offered by Mr. Augustine Gomes had to be dropped. Simultaneously, a plot of two acres of Government Land near Pamboor Church was acquired Mr. Augustine Gomes paid Rs. 50,000/- towards the cost and initial developing of the cost.

The Foundation for the Manasa Centre building was laid on 14.06.1995 by Late. Bishop Basil S. D’ Souza and it was inaugurated by the present Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius P. D’ Souza on 14.11.1997 But the centre had started working at the new promises on 01.06.1997 taking the children of the two schools at Pangala and Shirva and at the same time the two schools were closed.

he Year 1995 , on 28th day of March 1995 when Dr. Gerald Pinto was the president of Catholic Sabha. Mangalore Pradesh. (R) a separate trust Consisting of 15 trustees was registered, four of them being ex- Official members and the remaining 11 as Life time Trustees .

There are Five(5) office beavers being elected annually themselves each year.

THE STRONG PILLARS OF MANASA

  • Rev. Fr Jephrin Monis :

    He is a rare flower that blossomed in Pamboor Parish and his perfume is felt in Germany by way of his precious service. He is the backbone of the Manasa Centre. In Germany the contribution made by him and through him towards MANASA CENTRE cannot be expressed or described in words.

  • Rev. Fr Augustine Mendonca :

    A Parishioner from Shankerpura, but offering his precious service in Canada, he has been a source of strength and inspiration for our Manasa Centre. He has financially helped us a lot at crucial times.

  • THE DIOCESAN HEADS & THE CLERGY :

    The Silent but steady and continuous support encouragement and guidance of Our present Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius P. D’ Souza, our Late Bishop Basil S .D’ Souza, our centre Spiritual director Fr. Walter D’ Mellow and the various parish priests who have been our Spiritual directors at parish, Varada and Pranthya levels and other priests who have encouraged us, have Contributed in a great measure in realising the dream like project and making it what it is today.

    No project with a Magnitude that of Manasa Centre can succeed without the generous sacrifices and Contributions made by our benefactors and donors from Germany and people from India and moral support from scores of well wishers from everywhere we have to remember them today and every day, for the assistance and support provided towards this noble cause.
